The Horse Pond in Salzburg, Austria

The Pferdeschwemme or Horse Pond in Salzburg, Austria was built in 1695. The horses of the archbishop's stables were washed in this pond. The horse statue in the center was built by sculptor Michael Mandl. The Horse Pond was designed by Fischer v. Erlach and the horse frescos were made by Court painter Franz Anton Ebner.

Salzburg is very famous for its Sound of Music. Even though, I visited this city twice, I am still planning to go back there to watch the Sound of Music.

The Pferdeschwemme or Horse Pond taken during my second visit last November 2008. My first visit in Salzburg was in June 2007.

The splendid Horse Pond shows the importance of horses during the Baroque period. The Sigmundstor or Neutor is located behind the Horse Pond.
